AST - OEP has been working over the last 3 to 4 years on the identification and characterization of illegal open dumps on tribal lands. To date, over 25 of these dumps have been evaluated. With the recent approval of the Tribe's first Solid Waste Codes, the Tribe has begun to take steps to not only clean up the current sites but is taking strong action to prevent new sites.
Here are some photos of some of the worst sites examined. Utilizing GAP funds, OEP will attempt to clean up at least 5 of these sites within the next year.
