General Description
The ICW Caseworker is responsible for providing and following up on child protective services, general welfare and family support services to eligible children and their families with respect to their Tribal customs, culture and heritage. Caseworker will meet the need for service referrals for individuals and households. Responsible for general well-being and best interest of eligible children placed in Tribal or State foster homes, kinship or guardianship placements and adoptive homes with respect to the child’s culture.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain casework with emphasis on collecting and compiling factual data on individuals, families and groups to determine service needs and address identified problems to include transportation;
  • Provide and monitor service referrals, provide home studies, assessments, court reports, case plans and case outcomes through following-up contact with individuals, families and service providers in all areas of services as to treatment, prevention and advocacy;
  • Search to identify Indian foster care homes and Indian adoptive parents through active efforts in the community and statewide recruitment;
  • Monitors eligible foster parents and emergency homes;
  • Assists Law Enforcement officer in determining whether emergency removal of child from parent or legal custodian is necessary;
  • Assists Department of Human Services when alleged incident occurs off trust land.
  • Works in conjunction with Tribal, Federal, and State Courts, Law Enforcement, Attorneys and attend Child Protection Team (CPT) meetings and other meetings directly related to clients in case management workload;
  • Implement the goals and objectives of the grants, office policies and procedures;
  • Travels out of local area for home visits, safety checks, assessments, court hearings and trainings as required;
  • Completes home studies for prospective and renewal foster homes or as requested by the court.
  • Maintains confidential case records, compiles statistical information, and meets all reporting requirements;
  • Attends quarterly meetings with the Foster Care Licensing Committee to review and approve prospective foster homes, as needed;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external agencies and bureaucratic procedures;
  • Completes enrollment verification checks through the AST enrollment department;
  • Must be available to respond to calls for service on an on-call basis during nights and weekends;
  • Must provide transportation when needed;
  • Must possess a history of excellent work attendance;
  • Other duties as assigned by Director.
Education & Requirements
  • AA Degree or High School Diploma with comparable equivalent work and training experience.
  • General knowledge of Indian Child Welfare program and the Tribal, Federal and State laws that govern the Indian Child Welfare program.
  • General knowledgeable of Tribal family structure, Tribal customs and Tribal government.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and possess good written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must be able to stand, sit and walk for prolonged periods of time in order to properly perform the assigned duties.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to a pass comprehensive background check
