General Description
This position is located at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic- Little Axe Clinic in Norman, Oklahoma. The Clinics are an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. The Medical Biller is responsible for managing the accurate and timely submission of claims to insurance providers to ensure proper reimbursement for services rendered at the clinic. This role involves reviewing patient encounters and medical records, verifying insurance eligibility, generating and submitting claims, resolving billing discrepancies, and following up on unpaid or denied claims. The Medical Biller works closely with providers, coders, and administrative staff to support revenue cycle integrity and maintain compliance with payer and regulatory guidelines. Attendance is essential to achieving success in this role. Responsibilities & Duties
Responsible for reviewing patient logs, demographic, insurance eligibility and other activity to ensure billing is captured for all patients and completed accurately.
Make outbound calls to insurance companies to research and gather necessary information for successful claim resolution.
Be available to answer billing and changes related inquires by patients, staff, Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and Commercial insurance companies, etc.
Identify trends, and carrier issues relating to billing and reimbursements.
Pursue and participate in education to remain current with changes in the Healthcare industry.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.
Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to insure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Safeguard confidentiality of the medical charts/electronic health records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records.
Assure compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of billing statements and medical records.
Monitor Insurance electronic claim billing process is completed successfully on a daily basis.
Stay up-to-date on current billing regulations, and departmental policies.
Assist with third party payer and other audit request, by compiling and organizing documentation.
Generate Excel spreadsheets for special projects as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
High School Diploma with 1-3 years of medical billing experience.
CPB-(Certified Professional Biller) preferred, must obtain within 12 month of employment.
Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/DRG coding.
EHR and practice management systems experience is preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Must have knowledge of or experience in working with third party resources such as Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be reliable, detailed oriented, capable of multi-tasking with excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong professional customer- service interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to relate well with co-workers and the general public.
Ability to adjust to changing conditions.
Must be computer literate required (Windows operating systems – Microsoft Word, Excel).
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.

Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and sensory perception; frequent repetitive motions; as well as talking, hearing, and visual acuity are required.
