General Description
This position is primarily located in the Public Health Department at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic in Little Axe, Oklahoma. This position will assist the Public Health Director with community engagement programs within the established service area of the Tribe as the driver/site security of the AST Health System’s Public Health Mobile Care Units for Medical and Dental community engagement events as designated by the Tribe. Driver is additionally responsible for licensure with both a commercial driver’s license and a CLEET Armed Security Certification to provide security at public health events; drives to and from the designated patient encounter/outreach locations. Primary responsibility is to operate and maintain all outreach mobile clinic vehicles; provide support to operations supporting the values and mission of AST Health System’s Public Health Mission; and provides protective services coverage for the mobile care units. The mobile care unit driver is responsible for the mobile care unit driving/operations, coordination of scheduled maintenance, and set up/breakdown of the medical and dental team for community engagement events. Assures that safety remains the highest priority for all team members and patients attending all community and public health outreach events.
Responsibilities & Duties
Completes and maintains travel logs, fuels/services mobile units, and provides operator level readiness of mobile units such as cleanliness of interior/exterior of mobile units.
Responsible for mobile units’ routine maintenance and home base operations.
Controls personnel access by monitoring of individuals.
Coordinates emergency responses with police officers, fire and other emergency units, as needed.
Operates vehicle in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner while driving to various community sites.
Drives motor vehicle to client locations to perform services at designated locations.
Sets up the Mobile Unit (dropping down steps, extending slide outs and hooking up power, etc.).
Secures all items in storage compartment before moving vehicle.
Coordinates maintenance of the mobile care units to ensure that all maintenance schedules are timely.
Responsible for keeping commercial driver medical examination card are in their possession while operating the vehicle.
Completes basic assessment of environment to determine location access/viability for services with supervisor.
Prepares reports describing events as they happened includes maintaining an activity log to document shift activity; provides to AST Health System’s Security Office for repository of reports.
Subdues individuals causing disturbances.
May be required to direct traffic, maintain roadblocks, block off areas and parking lots for a measure of traffic control.

Driver will keep in contact with Health System Administration while on the road for periodic status checks and safety updates.
Works closely with AST Health System Security and AST PD Supervisors on training and equipment standardization.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred, along with 1-3 years combined experience in driving and security and/or law enforcement or military equivalency.
Must be 21 years of age and must be C.L.E.E.T armed certified, or be willing to get certified within the first year of employment.
Must be available to work flexible hours.
Must meet eligibility requirements for insurance coverage through the Tribe’s auto insurance plan.
Must be able to obtain BLS Certification.
Develops policies and procedures for various situations and contingencies for Public Health’s Mobile Care Unit program.
Must be able to follow instructions/directions and GPS.
Must be willing to work under adverse conditions and varied hours, no set breaks or lunch times.
Must be able to safely operate the vehicle provided by the AST Health System for transportation.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with peers and superiors.
Be culturally sensitive to Native population and needs.
Must be able to handle unpleasant customers and remain courteous and considerate during those times.
Must be able to professionally relate and communicate effectively and efficiently with the public.
Must be able to follow all instructions, written and oral.
The ability to function as a team member.
The ability to be a dependable member of the lab and be ready to start work on time.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity
